What if it all works out?
If you're reading this, it means that you've already taken the first step in feeling better. Whether you're struggling through a dark period of your life, or you've been having a challenging time with a loved one, you're doing the hard thing by asking for help, and I'm proud of you.
Who am I?
My name is Savanah and you read that correctly, my name is spelled with only one N and my parents told me it was because we couldn’t afford both. I grew up in a family that had a lot of the right ingredients (like warmth and humor) but didn’t have some of the tools that would have made home life a whole lot easier for us all. So, I became a Marriage and Family Therapist because families are where we can experience a lot of pain and frustration, but also tremendous healing.
In addition to Couples and Families, or "Systems" as we call them, I also work with individuals who suffer from depression, anxiety, and postpartum mental health issues. We all know what it's like to lay in bed at night, staring into the darkness, asking ourselves, "Remember that time I disappointed my dad when I was 8?" or "What the heck am I doing with my life? Something bad is going to happen, I know it." These kinds of thoughts are deeply unsettling and painful, and could be just the reason you're here with me today. Again, I'm proud of you for getting this far.
I work from a humanistic framework that suggests we all have within us what we need to be the best versions of ourselves, but that low self-worth can cloud that.
I’m known for my humor, warmth, and knack for finding and revealing the strengths that we all possess.
A song that reminds me of doing therapy is “I’ll Be Your Mirror,” by The Velvet Underground. I’m excited to get to know you and empower you to dig deep, find your courage, and tackle the uncomfortable and sticky parts of life.
